Photographer Essay

I was predominantly inspired by Jamie Nelson this six weeks. Her simplistic yet vibrant and unique style pushed me to expand the things I could do with portrait photography. She has a way of taking cutting-edge fashion or appearances and making them seem simplistic and elegant. Her work has been widely published and like most of the students taking this class she began taking interest in photography around the age of 17.
Jamie Nelson was born in Texas, and raised in Colorado where she discovered her passion for photography. She then later attended the Brooks Institute of Photography in California, and followed up by pursuing her career in New York. The wide scope of places she had the privilege of visiting definitely show up in her obscure style. This unique taste however, got her internationally known and published.
Nelson’s work can be seen all over editions of Vogue, Time, Vanity Fair, Glamour and many more. She has even done commercial collaborations with well known companies such as Maybelline, Revlon, Urban Decay, and Tarte Cosmetics. While she tends to focus on photography in specific she has even taken up directing several videos for Vogue Portugal and Vogue Taiwan, proving she is a well-rounded photographer.
Since this is my last year I wanted to follow in her foot steps and try some new interesting photo shoots that I’ve been dying to do. All the while I wanted to also incorporate some of her editing techniques such as the use of vibrant colors and simple backgrounds.
